My angels
At the end of last year, I lost a pregnancy — it was painful in every sense, and for a long time I moved through different stages of grief. I was hurting, but at times I couldn’t fully understand what exactly I was grieving. A dream that never came true? A soul I never got to meet?
I was searching for a form for my grief, but couldn’t find one. Many women who have gone through this loss shared that, after experiencing similar feelings, they held symbolic funerals for their unborn children. Some buried handmade dolls, others set small boats afloat at sea or lit candles as a gesture of farewell.
I felt the same need and took clay into my hands. This is how a series of angels made of clay, wool, and beads came to life — images of a dream that never took shape in this world, yet was filled with hope and love, and therefore left a very real trace in my soul.
